Principal's Greeting

Tēnā koutou, Glenview whānau,

As we reach the end of term three, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the many achievements and highlights that have made this term such a positive one. Our students have continued to show great commitment to their learning, and it has been fantastic to see their progress, enthusiasm, and willingness to challenge themselves across all areas of school life.

One of the real strengths of this term has been our House competitions, which continue to provide so many opportunities for students to get involved, contribute, and represent their House. Whether through sport, academic challenges, creative activities, or just having a go at something new, these competitions allow students of all ages and abilities to participate. The energy, friendly rivalry, and House spirit they generate are fantastic to see and add so much to the culture of Glenview. Thank you to Mr McMarshall for all his effort and engagement putting this together.

A big thank you must also go to our teachers, support staff, coaches, and parent helpers who continue to give their time and energy to provide such a wide range of learning, sporting, cultural, and extracurricular opportunities. These experiences are an important part of school life and help us grow confident, capable, and engaged learners.

We are now looking forward to finishing term three on a real high with our school production in the final week of the term. A huge amount of preparation, practice, and hard work has been happening behind the scenes, and we know it will be an incredible opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity, confidence, and talents. School productions are always a community favourite at Glenview, and we are excited to see all that hard work come together on stage.

Looking ahead, term four promises to be another busy and exciting term. Our athletics programme will get underway, leading into inter-school competitions, alongside the many learning, sporting, and community opportunities that make the final term such an enjoyable one. As always, our focus remains firmly on providing great learning experiences while encouraging every student to keep Bettering their Best.

As we head into the term break, I encourage everyone to enjoy some well-earned rest, whānau time, and hopefully plenty of opportunities to get outdoors. Thank you once again for the continued support you give Glenview and our tamariki. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a remarkable final term of 2026.

New Enrolments

Important notice to all families

Do you have any children due to start with us this year? Do you know any friends who are living in the school area who are likely to enrol their children?

We would appreciate it if you could go to our school website and fill in either the online enrolment form or come to the office as soon as possible to fill one in.

We also require their Birth Certificate/Passport, household Proof of Address (if In-Zone) and Immunisation Certificate. This documentation can be either scanned and emailed to [email protected] or come to the office so we can take a photocopy.

Early enrolments help us pre-plan. Thanks!

On Friday 13 November we will be having a teacher only day for the NZ curriculum refresh. Teachers will not be available for instruction on this day.

Also, the school will be closed on Monday 26 October for Labour Day.

General School Information

Signing Students Out Early

If you need to collect your child before the end of the school day, our procedure is to come to the office to sign your child out before going to collect them from their class. If your child is being collected early by someone who is not listed as an emergency contact, please contact the school office to give permission before they arrive. These policies ensure safety for all our tamariki and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

HERO enables you to keep up-to-date with all school communication. This is our main platform for communicating with parents/caregivers. If you are having any issues logging on please contact the school office. Please note that your child needs to be enrolled before you can have access to the App.

Student and Parent Contact Details

Could you please ensure that you let the office staff know if the contact details for your family change. This way we are able to keep our records up to date ensuring we are able to contact parents quickly if your child becomes unwell or if there is an emergency.

Nut Allergy

We have children with severe food allergies to peanuts/nuts, eggs and cheese at school. Any exposure to peanuts, other nuts, cheese and egg may cause a life threatening reaction.

To reduce the chance of this happening, please do not send any food containing peanuts or other nuts to school in your child’s lunchbox.

We also ask that if your child does have any egg or cheese in their lunchbox, it is important that they wash their hands and face straight after eating.

If your child has eaten peanuts, other nuts, cheese or eggs before school, please ensure their hands and face have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.

We appreciate your support of these procedures.

Library

This term has been a busy and fun one in the library!

Book Week was a real highlight, with Read Along, scavenger hunts, story activities, book-face photos and lots of bookish fun.

We also held our inaugural Glenview Readers’ Choice Awards, with students nominating and voting for their favourite Picture Book, Fiction and Non-Fiction titles. Thank you to everyone who took part! A big thank you to our wonderful supporters Callum Brae Pitch & Putt, Fun Zone and Ninja Valley for their generous prizes during book week.

The library has also been a great place to learn and create, especially in the Lego Room, where we’ve seen some amazing creations!

There are some exciting new books coming into the library, so make sure you come in and discover what’s new!

Junior Syndicate

There has certainly been a hive of activity in J8 this term! Our tamariki have been working incredibly hard towards putting on a fantastic show for our whānau and wider school community. Along the way, we have been learning all about the human body, making our production a wonderful opportunity to combine creativity, collaboration, and inquiry learning. This has been an area of learning that the tamariki have really enjoyed and engaged with.

We have also been very fortunate to have a science student from the University of Waikato joining us and sharing some exciting hands-on science learning. Over eight weeks, the children are exploring a range of fascinating concepts, including solids and liquids, flight, growing things, and what happens when we mix different materials. There are still plenty more exciting investigations to come!

Maths continues to be a favourite learning area in J8. This term we have been developing our understanding of place value, skip counting, addition and subtraction, volume and capacity, weight, and other forms of measurement. We love incorporating games, practical activities, and lots of hands-on learning to help make mathematical concepts meaningful and fun.

Finally, on behalf of our Junior School, we would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new J9 class and their whānau. We are delighted to have you joining our Glenview School community and look forward to learning, growing, and having lots of fun together!

Middle Syndicate

Science in M5!

This term, M5 has been lucky enough to have a science student from the University of Waikato join us once a week to lead some exciting science learning! So far, we have explored living and non-living things, investigated animals and their specific habitats, and discovered the mutual relationships between living things.

Our tamariki have loved getting hands-on, asking questions and thinking like scientists. We are very grateful for this awesome opportunity and have really enjoyed growing our science knowledge each week! Here is some of our awesome mahi.

Senior Syndicate

In S4 we have been writing narratives about space! Here is my story, where Kevin travels to Mars determined to prove his friend wrong, but his mission takes a wild turn when he meets a strange alien named Glub Glub. One angry decision soon puts Kevin up against an entire alien army! Will Kevin escape Mars, or will he learn his lesson too late? By Lilly
