Principal's Greeting
Kia ora Glenview Parents and Whānau,
As we move towards the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our incredible staff for their ongoing dedication, passion, and hard work. Their commitment continues to make Glenview a place where our students are supported to grow academically, socially, and personally.
This term, we have seen fantastic progress across the school. Our continued focus on the Habits of Mind has supported students to build resilience, think more deeply, and approach challenges with confidence. Whether it’s persisting with tricky tasks, managing impulsivity, or striving for accuracy, these habits are becoming increasingly evident in our learners. Alongside this, our staff have done an outstanding job implementing curriculum changes, ensuring our students remain well prepared and adaptable learners.
It has also been wonderful to see the level of enthusiasm and school spirit at our recent cross country event. Students showed determination, perseverance, and pride in representing themselves and our school. Our interschool team was fantastic, showing great effort and achieving excellent results, we are very proud of their performance.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to two new members of our team. We are pleased to have Maria Cleland joining us as our Librarian, and Nicole Adams as a Teacher Aide. We are excited to have them as part of the Glenview community and know they will make a positive contribution to our school.
A reminder to all families that sports fees are now due. These fees play a significant role in supporting the wide range of sporting opportunities we offer our students. Sport is a valuable part of school life, but it also comes with considerable costs, and your support in ensuring these fees are paid is greatly appreciated.
A quick reminder about lost property. Please ensure all clothing and belongings are clearly named, and encourage your child to check the lost property area regularly. This helps us return items to their rightful owners as quickly as possible.
Finally, we invite you to come along and join us at 9:00am next Friday (3 July) for our annual House Chant Assembly. This is always a fun and energetic event as our five houses battle it out for house points, showing off their spirit, teamwork, and creativity. Feel free to wear your child's house colours and cheer them on as they compete for house glory!
After the assembly, we invite you to spend the remainder of block one in your child's classroom, where they'll be excited to share and celebrate their learning with you before morning tea.
Thank you for your continued support of Glenview School.
Ngā mihi nui

Library
Kia ora everyone!
My name is Mrs Cleland, and I am the new School Librarian. I am excited to be part of our school community and to support our students in developing strong reading habits and a lifelong enjoyment of books and learning. I would love the opportunity to meet parents and whānau, so please feel free to stop by and say hello at drop-off or pick-up times.
This term, students have enjoyed matching flags to the countries taking part in the FIFA World Cup and discovering where they are in the world compared with New Zealand. We have included a photo showcasing some of the fun and learning that has taken place in the library.
Looking ahead to next term, we will be exploring new activities inspired by the Commonwealth Games, along with many other exciting opportunities for students to engage, create, and discover new reads in the library. I look forward to meeting you all and sharing another great term of learning, discovery, and fun.

This
term, J5 has been learning all about Autumn. We have learned…Autumn is a season with noticeable changes in weather and nature
- Autumn is a season with noticeable changes in weather and nature
- Trees and animals respond to seasonal changes
- We can observe, describe, and represent seasonal change in different ways
We

Cross Country Writing
After the cross country, the children completed a ‘quick write’ where they wrote a recount of the Cross Country. They were challenged to write in paragraphs by planning the beginning, middle and end of the day's events. Here are some examples of the writing completed by some middle school students.
Cross Country Day
On Tuesday it was cross country day. We were waiting for the juniors to finish it took a while
I was starting to get bored. I tried to play games to pass the time. I think it worked because by the time we finished a couple games it was our turn already. I heard a sound say, ¨Year four girls!¨ I nervously walked to the startline. Before we started running We did a couple warm ups. Suddenly, I heard Mrs Jennings clack the clappers.
I bolted onto the field like lightning! Zooming past a lot of people but I was still like 9th. As I was running I got slower and slower until I was the same speed as a sloth. I was so close to the finish line I could smell it. Had I made it?
I could see everyone clapping. I really didn't care coming 9th well only a little but it was fun too.
Also exhausting my legs were jelly after that!

As I was walking to the big field for cross country I crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t come last.I watched the year 2 girls go, then the boys. It was so boring waiting for the students to finish, especially without anyone to play with.
I had been waiting for about 15 minutes and I could only chant. As I was chanting I sounded like I was faking my words. All I heard was chanting and groups being called up. I went through half of my water but I felt so lightheaded.
Suddenly, they called up the year 4 boys. They did some warm ups and stuff but I knew it would waste energy. As I “did” the warm ups Mrs Jennings suddenly clapped the wooden clappers. I bolted past 10 people laughing while they ate my dust. When I finished my first lap I kept bolting past the teachers and cones. I heard one person calling my name from the sidelines, that person was Aubrey.
Once I had finished I collapsed to the ground. I looked back and I hadn’t come last. My throat felt like the Sahara desert so I drank my water. It tasted like a delicious soda.

The race
Before the race I was a little bit bored so I played with Jadyn and we played pickachu. He won some and I won some too.
The start
We were warming up then, 321 go. I blasted off as fast as a cheetah. On the second lap I didn't have as much energy as the first lap. Suddenly, Saumaki was going to pass me, but ahead the finish line was waiting for me. I finally finished.
After the race
I came 2nd and Jadyn came first. After the seniors finished their races, the bell rang. Jadyn and I went to get some lunch. I had ice cream and fudge.

Cross Country Running
On Tuesday I was a waiting duck because I was tired and waiting. I was thinking I'm going to come last. It was cross country and I was nervous
The whole school was there, I sat there for a long time. While I was watching the juniors run, I played hand games with my friends and drank all my water.
Suddenly, they shouted, the Y4 girls. I was so nervous, I didn't want to get all my power out at the start. The clappers went ‘’BANG!” I jogged and my heart felt like a barking dog telling me to be brave. Every mum or dad cheered their kids to win.
The race has come to an end, it felt like my lungs were out. I was a dog that could not breathe. At the start I had energy but now I am very tired. But I was still happy because at least I still tried.

Native VS Predator
As part of our inquiry learning, one of the ways M5 explored New Zealand native animals and introduced predators, was through both art and narrative writing. They picked a native animal and predator with their own names and personalities, then wrote imaginative stories about how the two animals might interact if they met in the wild, with art to match.
Davie and Jojo
One night in the deep dark forest lived a cute little bat. But one night a stoat came. At first the bat was scared but then the stoat said... dont worry im a good stoat. And then they became best friends. Then the bat said... let's tell each other our names. Okay I’ll go first said the bat. My name's Davie, said the bat. My name's Jojo, said the stoat.
The next night they played hide and seek and tag and lots of other games. They had lots and lots of fun. It was a blast. But they got more and more tired and it was becoming day time so they had a sleepover. In the morning they were fast asleep then the next night you know what they did they had another sleepover. The end.

Native vs predator
As I was running through the forest to get back to my camp ground I saw this bat that looked hurt so I decided to help it. I carried it back to the camp ground and put a bandage on its damaged leg. As I was walking with the bat I saw a stoat. I kept it as a pet because I never knew it was a predator and that's when it all began.
I went back out to look for food but suddenly I heard a bang .I thought it was nothing so I continued to hunt for food. When I got back from hunting I saw the bat hurt on the ground and that's when I realised the stoat was a predator. The end

Lucky and Fuzzy
One dark midnight, there was a bat called Lucky cruising around in the majestic sky. With her really good bat ears, she heard rustling in a bush, a giant, wet bush she slowly started going down. When she looked down there was a sneaky, cheeky looking, kinda stupid stoat, Lucky said”what are you doing, cheeky stoat?” Fuzzy said “looking for delicious food” Lucky wants to trap Fuzzy so she said “I know where food is” Fuzzy said “lead me there” so lucky did but Fuzzy didn't know it was just veges and Fuzzy hates veges.
They were on their way to the totally good food and on the way Fuzzy licked his lips and slurped thinking the food will be good but it wouldn't. Finally they made it there Fuzzy said “where's the food?” Lucky said ”go to the cage” Fuzzy said “NO its veges AHH” the end bye bye.

Predator and Native
The hedgehog was making a trick then the kiwi saw the hedgehog. Then the hedgehog told kiwi to come and the hedgehog said go away. The kiwi pushed him and the kiwi ran away and kiwi came back and helped him out. The hedgehog did the trick again. He fell over, he got hurt and the kiwi came and he said you have to stay here forever .

Arbor Day
On June 5 2026, 20 senior Glenview students went to Tauhara Park to plant trees and make our city just that bit greener. Through the microphone a host explained everything. Our area, our trees and all the fun activities we would be able to do during our time there. And after not long at all we got straight to it! We got a quick demo from someone on how best to plant certain trees and how to tell what trees we were actually planting.
We got into buddies and found an area to start. There were trees dotted around our section for us to plant and give a home to.
Digging was harder than it looked so we were thankful to the hard working parents and teachers especially. The person on the microphone later announced to try and make the longest pot snake where you put them all into each other and make the longest line of pots.
After they were all in we formed a line at one end of our area and walked together to try and find any that weren't planted properly. After we had a little snack we were allowed to go visit some of the exhibitions like A honey one where you could try some fresh honey and look for the queen bee. Or a lizard one where you could see different species of lizard. And so so many more.
Thanks for listening to our Arbour day experience.
