Principal's Greeting

Tēnā koutou, Glenview whānau,

Welcome back to Term Four! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and refreshing holiday break and has settled back into the routines of school life. A special welcome to all our new students and whānau joining Glenview Primary this term. It is wonderful to have you as part of our school community, and we look forward to seeing you grow and succeed throughout the remainder of the year.

Term four is always an exciting and busy time at Glenview, with a fantastic range of sporting events, cultural activities, and opportunities for our tamariki to showcase their talents. One of the highlights already has been our school production, which brought our community together and provided a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate their confidence, creativity, and teamwork. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff, students, and whānau who contributed to making this such a successful event. As we move through the final term, there is still plenty to look forward to as we celebrate another successful year of learning and achievement.

As the weather continues to warm up, a reminder that all students are required to wear a brimmed hat during outdoor activities. Being sun-smart is particularly important during Term four, so we encourage families to ensure their children bring a named hat and water bottle each day. Sunscreen is also strongly recommended as we make the most of the warmer weather and the many outdoor opportunities available to our students.

At Glenview Primary, our commitment to continuous improvement and Learnership remains at the heart of everything we do. Throughout the year, our students have been encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning, embrace challenges, and demonstrate our school values of Honesty, Effort, Respect, and Engagement. Term four provides another opportunity to reinforce these important habits, reflect on progress, and continue striving to better our best. We are incredibly proud of the positive attitudes and commitment to learning demonstrated across our school.

The partnership between home and school continues to play an important role in supporting student success. We encourage whānau to remain actively involved in their children's learning, celebrate their achievements, and maintain open communication with classroom teachers. These strong relationships help create the positive, supportive environment that makes Glenview such a special place to learn and grow.

Finally, a reminder of the importance of regular school attendance, particularly as we approach the end of the year. Every school day provides valuable opportunities for learning, connection, and personal growth. Maintaining consistent routines and attendance helps ensure our students finish the year positively and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.

Thank you once again to our wonderful Glenview community for your ongoing support. We look forward to another fantastic term filled with learning, achievement, and celebration as we finish 2026 on a high!

Signing Students Out Early

If you need to collect your child before the end of the school day, our procedure is to come to the office to sign your child out before going to collect them from their class. If your child is being collected early by someone who is not listed as an emergency contact, please contact the school office to give permission before they arrive. These policies ensure safety for all our tamariki and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Student and Parent Contact Details

Could you please ensure that you let the office staff know if the contact details for your family change. This way we are able to keep our records up to date ensuring we are able to contact parents quickly if your child becomes unwell or if there is an emergency.

Nut Allergy

We have children with severe food allergies to peanuts/nuts, eggs and cheese at school.  Any exposure to peanuts, other nuts, cheese and egg may cause a life threatening reaction.

To reduce the chance of this happening, please do not send any food containing peanuts or other nuts to school in your child’s lunchbox.

We also ask that if your child does have any egg or cheese in their lunchbox, it is important that they wash their hands and face straight after eating.

If your child has eaten peanuts, other nuts, cheese or eggs before school, please ensure their hands and face have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.

We appreciate your support of these procedures.

Library

Library Adventures!

There's been some detective work happening in the library! With a little help from Greg, students have been solving riddles, exploring the shelves and discovering how the Dewey Decimal System helps us find non-fiction books. Check out our display board to see what they've been up to!

Week 4 brings the start of our annual Book Returns House Competition! The race is on to see which house can return all their library books first!

Families, we'd love your support! A little hunt around home for those library books will help get them back on our shelves and earn valuable points for your child's house. Let the competition begin!

In J7, we have been focussing on similes, onomatopoeia and alliteration. We wrote acrostic poems about Spring, being sure to use our newly learned language features. Then, we painted some amazing watercolour paintings of the things that make Spring special to us.

What a fantastic way to finish Term 3, with the children buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm as they had the wonderful opportunity to perform on stage! Now we are into Term 4, and there is plenty more to look forward to. We are excited to begin our study of New Zealand, discovering more about our amazing country. On the sporting front, we will be busy practising our skills in preparation for Athletics in Week 5. We also have our triathlon to look forward to, so there will be lots of swimming, biking and running as we get ready for another fun-filled and action-packed term!

Descriptive sentences detailing pride, joy and also bubbling nerves at performing the production.

As my knees knocked and my thoughts raced, I felt all my nerves throughout my whole body. I waited, trembling in the library for my turn on stage. Alice M1

After performing onstage, my thoughts bubbled with relief, and my smile widened. I couldn't believe I had just done that in front of the crowd. Liam M2

Waiting behind the black curtain, my thoughts exploded in my brain. Suddenly, I heard clapping and whistling. It was my turn to go on stage. I took a deep breath and slowly let it out, the air slipping through my lips. “I can do this”, I reassured myself. Roman M2

Staring, searching eyes looking into the distance for my parents after the Production. There they were, waiting for me. They told me how proud they were. Kyra M5

Roaring Engine

The engine roared as I pulled back the clutch, hands vibrating. Slowly I released the clutch, twisting back the throttle in the process. Badump! The bike yanked itself  forwards, for a second I thought it had stalled but no, no it hadn’t, the motorbike rumbled and moved forward over the tractor tire indents and into the empty paddock.

I looked out  into the distance where I could see my brother, Hendrick, riding on his bike which was creating a small dust cloud. Only one thing was important to me now, only one singular thing: pass Hendrick. I went up to second gear, then third, and fourth. Wind rushed into my eyes, passed my helmet, as I zoomed up the hill. The fence was getting dangerously close.

I made a sharp turn to avoid the fence but the bike slid across the muddy grass, getting me even closer, at that moment two words raced through my mind, “oh no”. Under a meter away

The motorbike uprighted itself and barely missed the fence. Continuing my mission I raced towards Hendrick.

I was getting closer and closer. Soon I was right behind him, “why are you going so fa-” he began but I had already passed him. Mission complete I went back down to second gear just to have Hendrick, the menace to society, pass me. Oblivious to what he had done, his bike continued to move throughout the field.

Rage overthrew me; third gear, fourth gear, fifth gear. My motorbike cut through the grass throwing up mud behind it, getting nearer and nearer to my helpless prey. I turned early to avoid the fence even then it barely missed me, I didn’t care. The bike sliced past Hendrick. Then I rushed out of the paddock before he could pass me again: victory.
