Principals Greeting

Kia ora Glenview parents and whānau,

It is hard to believe we are already into week three of term three. The term has started with great energy, and it has been wonderful to see our students quickly settling back into their learning routines. We have also been delighted to welcome a number of new students and their families to Glenview. We hope your time with us is both enjoyable and rewarding.

At Glenview, continuous learning and personal growth remain at the heart of everything we do. Learnership is about much more than acquiring new knowledge; it is about developing the skills, resilience, and confidence to embrace challenges, reflect on progress, and strive for improvement each day. Every step forward, no matter how small, contributes to long-term success, and it is pleasing to see our students demonstrating these qualities in their classrooms every day.

Winter sports continue to showcase the enthusiasm and commitment of our students. We wish all of our teams the very best for the remainder of the season. Whether representing Glenview in football, basketball, netball, hockey, or other sporting codes, our students continue to display teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. A sincere thank you goes out to our coaches, managers, officials, and whānau whose generosity and support make these opportunities possible.

This term we are also excited to welcome a group of international students from China to Glenview. Their visit provides a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange, new friendships, and authentic learning experiences for both our visitors and our own students. We are proud to share our school, our community, and New Zealand culture while learning more about theirs. We extend a very warm Glenview welcome and thank the staff and host families who have helped make their visit possible.

A gentle reminder to all families that punctuality remains an important part of a successful school day. Arriving before the first bell ensures students begin the day settled, connected with their classmates, and ready to learn from the very first lesson. Likewise, we appreciate students being collected promptly at the end of the school day.

There are many exciting events and learning opportunities still to come this term. Please continue to keep an eye on our website, HERO notifications, emails, and social media channels to stay up to date with everything happening across our school.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of Glenview School. Together, we continue to provide an environment where every child is challenged, supported, and encouraged to better their best.

New Enrolments

Important notice to all families

Do you have any children due to start with us this year? Do you know any friends who are living in the school area who are likely to enrol their children?

We would appreciate it if you could go to our school website and fill in either the online enrolment form or come to the office as soon as possible to fill one in.

We also require their Birth Certificate/Passport, household Proof of Address (if In-Zone) and Immunisation Certificate. This documentation can be either scanned and emailed to [email protected] or come to the office so we can take a photocopy.

Early enrolments help us pre-plan. Thanks!

General School Information

Signing Students Out Early

If you need to collect your child before the end of the school day, our procedure is to come to the office to sign your child out before going to collect them from their class. If your child is being collected early by someone who is not listed as an emergency contact, please contact the school office to give permission before they arrive. This ensures safety for all our tamariki and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

HERO enables you to keep up-to-date with all school communication. This is our main platform for communicating with parents/caregivers. If you are having any issues logging on please contact the school office. Please note that your child needs to be enrolled before you can have access to the App.

Student and Parent Contact Details

Could you please ensure that you let the office staff know if the contact details for your family change. This way we are able to keep our records up to date ensuring we are able to contact parents quickly if your child becomes unwell or if there is an emergency.

Nut Allergy

We have children with severe food allergies to peanuts/nuts, eggs and cheese at school.  Any exposure to peanuts, other nuts, cheese and egg may cause a life threatening reaction.

To reduce the chance of this happening, please do not send any food containing peanuts or other nuts to school in your child’s lunchbox.

We also ask that if your child does have any egg or cheese in their lunchbox, it is important that they wash their hands and face straight after eating.

If your child has eaten peanuts, other nuts, cheese or eggs before school, please ensure their hands and face have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.

We appreciate your support of these procedures.

Library

What’s Happening in Our
Library?

It has
been a busy term in the library! We have been celebrating the Commonwealth Games, with students
creating good-luck messages for the New Zealand athletes. We were delighted to
receive confirmation from Olympic House
that the messages had been received!

We have
also been celebrating International
Friendship Day and exploring the New
Zealand Book Awards shortlisted books. Our students have also been busy nominating
their favourite books in our own Glenview
School Book Awards.

Our
Student Librarians have also been busy helping around the library and taking on
new challenges and helping to make our library a fun safe space. 

Junior Syndicate

Kia Ora everyone.  This term we are very fortunate to have some science students from Waikato University.   J6 and J7 have had fun with gummy bears.  We made different solutions of water and vinegar, water and salt, as well as water and sugar.  The gummy bears were put into one of these solutions to see what happened.  The sugar solution absorbed the most.

Middle Syndicate

The term has started with lots of excitement, and Team 2 is already full of energy! There is a wonderful buzz as we begin preparing for our production, and the children are eager to start learning their songs and dances. In the classroom, we have also been building our persuasive writing skills. The students have loved sharing their ideas in lively debates on topics such as how to save the kiwi, why Glenview Primary is the best school, and why our playground could be even better. Last term, our Matariki celebration was a fantastic success, and it was lovely to see so many families joining us to celebrate together. Below are some of the beautiful artworks the children created during our special Matariki celebration, a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look forward with hope to the year ahead.

Senior Syndicate

This term we have been lucky enough to get international students from Cheng du Northern China visiting Glenview School. These students have been an excellent addition to our school, we are very glad to host them here. Despite the new circumstances in New Zealand they have been adapting greatly to our school and area. We’ve been  doing our best in assuring that they have a great time here in Glenview Primary School.

We have introduced them to the ways of our school and culture of New Zealand  by doing stuff like showing them Waiata in first hand experience. Students from Glenview have been befriending ones from China. We have really enjoyed this visit just as much as we hope they do find it exciting. While they learn a lot about New Zealand we’ve learnt just as much about China from them.

These students have become a part of the school in these few weeks. We have really enjoyed their company and what we have learnt about them, when I say this I know I speak for all the students and teachers here at Glenview School. We have been really happy to have these students come from China to New Zealand.

We hope that we have given them a good impression of New Zealand through showing them its culture and what Glenview School is all about. This has been a wonderful experience for both students from China and New Zealand. It is a real treat to have these students from China come to visit Glenview. We have done our best to make sure they have an enjoyable time and we hope our hard work will pay off.
