Principals Greeting
Kia ora Glenview parents and whānau,
Welcome back to term two. I hope you all had a refreshing break and are ready for another positive and productive term. A special welcome to the new families joining our Glenview School community—we’re very pleased to have you with us.
A Fresh Look for Our Newsletter
You’ll notice this term that our newsletter has a refreshed format. We’ve made some changes to make it clearer, more accessible, and easier to find the information that matters most to you. We’d value your feedback as we continue to refine how we communicate with our community.
Reporting to Parents
Later this term, we will be sharing student progress information with you in line with the Ministry of Education’s updated reporting requirements. These changes are designed to provide clearer, more meaningful information about your child’s learning, progress, and next steps. Our reports will give you a better understanding of how your child is achieving in relation to the curriculum, as well as how you can support their learning at home. We look forward to sharing this updated approach with you and continuing to strengthen our partnership in supporting your child’s success.
Regular Attendance Matters
Regular attendance continues to be a key focus for us. Being at school every day supports not only academic progress but also social connections and a strong sense of belonging. Every day really does count, and we appreciate your support in ensuring your child attends school regularly.
Encouraging Reading at Home
Reading at home remains one of the most powerful ways you can support your child’s learning. Even a short time spent reading together each evening can significantly build confidence, vocabulary, and a love of learning. Keep it enjoyable—stories, comics, articles—anything that sparks interest.
Learnership and Habits of Mind
At Glenview School, we continue to grow our learners through developing positive habits of mind. These help students become thoughtful, resilient, and capable learners. Some of the key habits we focus on include:
Persistence – Sticking with challenges
Managing Impulsivity – Thinking before acting
Listening with Understanding and Empathy – Respecting others’ ideas
Thinking Flexibly – Being open to new approaches
Striving for Accuracy – Taking care with quality work
Questioning and Problem Posing – Being curious and thoughtful
Applying Past Knowledge – Using what we already know in new situations
Thinking and Communicating Clearly – Expressing ideas effectively
These habits support success both in and beyond the classroom.
Upcoming Events
We have a full and exciting term ahead, including sports, cultural opportunities, and chances to connect with you through school events. Your involvement makes a real difference, so please keep an eye on our communications for updates.
Keeping Information Up to Date
A reminder to please ensure your contact details are current with the school office. This helps us stay in touch and respond quickly if needed.
Thank you for your continued support of our school. We look forward to working together to make term two a successful and enjoyable one for all our students.

Year 2 Dance
In Year 2, we have been enjoying our weekly dance sessions every Tuesday in the hall with Mrs Zainey. We have been learning a variety of exciting new moves, carefully watching and copying the steps she teaches us. As our confidence grows, we are beginning to link our movements together and perform short sequences with better coordination and rhythm.
Along the way, we have explored different levels of movement, high, medium, and low, adding depth and creativity to our dances. Some of the moves can be challenging, but we show great perseverance and always try our best. Most importantly, we are having lots of fun as we build our confidence and develop our skills through dance.
Middle Syndicate
Anzac Day
Middle Team has kicked off the term by exploring ANZAC Day and what bravery and courage really mean — not just in big, dramatic ways, but in everyday moments too (like speaking up or trying something new, which can feel just as scary!). We’ve talked about the soldiers who showed incredible courage by leaving home to help others, and the class has been full of thoughtful questions and reflections. We also learned about dawn ceremonies, with some children sharing their own experiences of attending one — including just how early you have to get up! The poppy has been a big focus, too, and many were quite amazed that something so small can carry such an important meaning.
